It’s started the countdown for the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014, the Olympic Games of architecture created by US Department of Energy, which this year will be accepted within the beautiful gardens of Versailles from June 28 to July 14.
Twenty prototypes to zero energy and consumption made from heterogeneous team of university students and professionals from 16 different countries and 3 continents, for a festival unique in that for years unable to draw international attention on the world of ecological design and green building. It will be the Cité du Soleil to welcome 20 participants prototypes at the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014, each of which will seek to develop a proposal for zero energy housing in a position to respond to the specific characteristics of their own country, taking into account the environment in which the building is destined to evolve based on six distinct profiles:
– Density: encouraging projects to develop collective solutions rather than individual suitable for high-density urban life;
– Mobility: the strong interaction between the transportation system and housing makes inevitable the development of projects where the factor mobility is held in high esteem, both on the basis of the accessibility of the prototype based on the ease of travel for future residents;
– Sobriety: the Solar Decathlon Europe aims to develop solutions with an energy efficiency increasingly trying to integrate renewable energy sources to the whole of the buildings, but above all aiming to consume wisely;
– Innovation: coming from the world of research, prototypes will be able to develop increasingly innovative solutions to produce more and consume less, solutions can then be applied in other contexts;
– Affordability: all teams will be invited to engage in the project industrial partners able to actually implement the engineering solutions developed in the laboratory, without forgetting the fundamental economic factor, a key is extremely important for further developments;
– Environmental context: all the prototypes will be developed to respond to the climate of the place of origin of the teams, while still being able to demonstrate at the same time consumption equal to zero even in the course of the event.
The 20 prototypes competing in the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 will be judged by a panel of experts based in 10 different categories for a total of 1000 points.
